    About Asics

Asics have become over the years the brand leader in sales of running shoes. They’ve achieved this by making very good shoes. They have a research and development facility that houses over 200 staff and everyone is there to improve their running shoes as well as other products. So you get very technologically advanced shoes that help you run further, longer and faster. This is all from just a running and these feature you don’t get from other running shoes.

    Asics Gel Kahana 4 Review

The Asics Gel kahana 4 are now in it’s 4th reincarnation so you can be sure it’s popular and successful running shoe. If you’ve had success with the Kahana 3′s then these will be good for you too. These running shoes are good for all pronation and arch types. They’re stability running shoes so they will give you cushioning and support however you run. They also favor those running on trails or all kinds of variable running surfaces.

Upper – To help with safety these shoes have reflective parts so you can be seen in the dark. There is a mesh and synthetic overlay covering the upper. This provides extra support and performance and allow the feet to breathe in hot weather or if your running is making you hot. The lining of the upper is textile and these is room for a medical orthotic if needed. The collar is padded and there’s a heel pull up loop to help you get these shoes on comfortably and easily.

Heel and Forefoot – The Gel technology is what Ascics have become popular for and is their flagship piece of new technology. They try and do apply it to every running or trail shoe they have. In the Gel Kahana 4′s the Gel packs are located on the rearfoot. This gives a beautiful bounce and soft cushioned feeling as your heel lands as you run. This is very important in the heel which is a hard wearing part of the shoe.

Midsole – The midsole has a special support system called Duomax. This is a dual density midsole that enhances support and stability in the shoe. The midsole is the connection between the upper and the sole unit so it can contain more cushioning parts and must still stay flexible to allow the runner to pronate normally. These trail running shoes achieve that with all the Gel cushioning and running improving technology built in.

Outsole – The outsole is specific for trail running although any surface can get a good grip from this sole especially when it’s raining. There are reversed lugs which make the shoe grip for running up or down hill easier and better. There is a Trusstic System built into the middle of the sole. This reduces the weight of the sole unit while still maintaining the structural integrity of the shoe. All this makes any surface a breeze to run on with these shoes.

    Asics Gel Kahana 4 Conclusion

The Asics Gel Kahana 4 are variable width which is unusual in running shoes as well as trail running shoes. This means you get a better fit so these’s little movement of the feet in the shoe. You get aa good tight fit that makes the shoe part of the feet as you run. The sole has been designed for outdoor running and there’s still a special heel system which gives you more stability and durability on what is part of the shoe that takes the most punishment. Overall the Gle Kahana 4′s are a great value cushioned running shoe.
